Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. An intimidating copper mace head of a generally cylindrical form that is embellished with 4 vertical rows of pointy spikes alternating with pairs of rope-patterned bands at the upper ends and framed above and below with double bands embellished with similar rope motifs. Below this section is a register of repeated incised chevrons alternating with relief inverted triangles that are also incised with chevron motifs. Finally about an inch above the flared base are two horizontal raised bands embellished with rope motifs. A Luristan mace head that is both attractive and dangerous!
