Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A two-part, cast-bronze standard finial depicting a mysterious figure known as the master of animals. The master stands with bowed legs atop a narrow base while grasping the throats of 2 abstract avian creatures - demonstrating his mastery over the living world - and the bottom component is shaped like a bell to accommodate several sizes of standard poles. Size: 1.6" L x 2.7" W x 12" H (4.1 cm x 6.9 cm x 30.5 cm); 12.5" H (31.8 cm) on included custom stand.
