Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-bronze short sword with a sturdy blade bearing sharpened edges and a raised midrib on both sides. The grooves in the handle enabled the warrior to better grip the weapon while the recessed lunate pommel was perhaps filled with a decorative inlay. Even layers of green patina have developed over the millennia across the weapon's surfaces while eye-catching azurite patina is visible within the pommel. Size: 20.6" L x 2.8" W x 1.7" H (52.3 cm x 7.1 cm x 4.3 cm)

Provenance: private Constance McCormick Fearing estate, Montecito, California, USA, acquired before 2004
