Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-bronze stag figurine depicted standing atop four sturdy legs. The animal presents with a slender, elongated body with incised details denoting the stylized ribs, hind quarters, and musculature, with a powerful neck adorned with a zigzagging collar and lightly-incised rays around the neck indicative of hair. The head has a conical snout, slit-form nostrils, almond-shaped eyes, perky ears, and a pair of pronged antlers. Covered in lustrous layers of green and russet patina, this is a wonderful mammalian figurine! Size: 3.1" L x 3" H (7.9 cm x 7.6 cm).
