Description:

Near East, northwestern Iran / Turkey, Luristan to Achaemenid, Bronze to Iron Age, ca. 2000 to 500 BCE. A massive paddle like blade cast from bronze, a broad lanceolate form that tapers to a rounded tip. The shoulder peripheries provide a natural rest / guard for a gripped hand to press against. The thick handle has a flattened grip, and the overall blunted and smoothed edges and size suggests this was not intended for cutting or stabbing, but perhaps a ritualistic item or grave good. Size: 15" L x 3.2" W (38.1 cm x 8.1 cm)
