Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A fine gathering of six hand-carved stone beads which double as stamp seals. First are a pair of hemispherical beads with a pair of abstract figures on the stamp faces. An elongated, white-hued ovoid bead has a lightly carinated midsection and boasts a pair of recumbent ibexes. Another hemispherical bead features an incised concentric circle intersected by a linear striation. The second-largest stamp has an incised sun on the stamp face with radiating rays, and the largest has roughly two dozen small spots drilled onto the surface. Size of largest (drilled spots): 1.6" L x 1.4" W (4.1 cm x 3.6 cm).
