Pre-Columbian, Border area between Panama & Costa Rica (Diquis zone), ca. 1000-1500 CE. These earthenware jars were created in the border area between Panama and Costa Rica. Together they make for an intriguing group of diverse forms. Highlights include a vase with a charming bird visage, a basket-like form with its handle ornamented with shell motifs, and the large, chalice-like form with two alligator snouts and surface appliqués conjuring imagery of reptilian skin. 5-1/2"T x 7-1/4"D at widest (chalice); 6- 1/4"T x 5"D (bird vase); 4-1/2"T x 6-1/4"D at widest (basket form); 3-1/4"T x 5"D (large tripod vessel); 2-3/4"T x 4-1/4"D (medium tripod); 2-1/2"T x 3-1/2"D (small tripod); 5-1/2"T x 6-3/4"W (reptilian chalice) Provenance: Ex-J.
