Description:

Ancient Greece, Classical to early Hellenistic period, ca. 5th to late 4th century BCE. An interesting ensemble of hand-built pottery whistles depicting highly stylized, human-headed birds. Two birds feature identical heads that are turned to the right and bear upturned noses and black-hued coiffures. Another avian creature has a distinctly female head with a tiered headband, and the fourth has a bearded male face with faint zigzags across the chest. All four whistles create sound when played. Size of largest (female w/ one black eye): 1.7" W x 3.3" H (4.3 cm x 8.4 cm)
