Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Ancestral Puebloan, Anasazi, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A fine gathering of four hand-carved stone items from the ancient Anasazi. First are two petite pot lids of ovoid forms with nicely preserved surfaces. The largest piece is another ovoid stone pot lid; however, one side is incredibly smooth from use. The fourth item is a near-miniature stone paint pot with a shallow indentation for holding earthy pigments. Size of largest (smooth pot lid): 8.3" L x 6.375" W (21.1 cm x 16.2 cm).

Provenance: ex-Joan Shaw collection, bought in 1971; loaned to the Mesa Verde Museum, 1962-1970; ex-Bill Mitchell collection, Cortez, Colorado, USA, from 1958-1962
