Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Vicus culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A wonderful trio of buff earthenware, characteristically abstract, anthropomorphic votive figures, each with appliqued, perforated, and incised details as well as nice traces of negative resist decoration. All are of the Ayabeca substyle and have been made by the same hand. Given the ear treatments and modeling of facial features, they may in fact be a matched set representing a family - father, mother, and child. Size of largest: 3.5" W x 5.75" H (8.9 cm x 14.6 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-old private New England collection, acquired in the 1970s; ex private San Francisco, California, USA collection, 1980s
