Description:

Northern Europe, Viking/Norse culture, ca. 1000 CE. A trio of miniature iron knives with a scythe form, each with a long tang and a flat, curved blade. Many Viking iron items were made from bog iron, iron that forms naturally in bogs after being washed by streams from nearby mountains. This was the primary source of iron for the Vikings, and some scholars have even argued that the need for more iron from bogs drove Viking expansion. Iron tools in the Viking world were treasured objects that were frequently passed down from generation to generation. All three here are displayed together on a single stand. Size of largest: 8.75" W x 3" H (22.2 cm x 7.6 cm); 6.7" H (17 cm) on included custom stand.
