Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guerrero, Mexico, ca. 400-100 BCE. Two visage pendants carved from inherently beauteous stone - one jadeite, the other speckled greenstone, plus an intriguing anthropomorphosed deep-greenstone profile figure. The Mezcala sculptors brilliantly used string-cut techniques to differentiate facial features with eloquent line. The results manifest minimalist, stylized forms. Jadeite - 1"Lx1"W; Speckled Greenstone 1 3/4"L x 1 3/4"W; Deep Greenstone 2 1/4"L x 1"W Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970. All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids, papered by our parent company, Artemis Gallery Ancient Art. The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.
