Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Borneo, Kalimantan or Sarawak region, Dayak people, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A trio of hand-carved wooden carving knives known as pisau raut with hammered forged-steel blades bearing sharpened edges. The first knife features a stylized figural seated with retracted knees, and the second displays a tiered, beehive pommel. The tallest knife exhibits a finial in the form of an abstract zoomorph that is carved from cattle bone. All three knives are enveloped in lustrous patina. Size of longest (bone finial): 19.6" L (49.8 cm)

  • Condition: All items have minor abrasions and a few stable hairline fissures, with light encrustations on and slight bending to blades, and loosening to wire wrappings on knife with beehive pommel, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout.
