Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A set of 3 hand-carved greenstone celt figures of characteristically abstract forms, each exhibiting avian features on their heads. Two of the figures have suspension holes drilled laterally through the necks while the largest features 2 pairs of biconically drilled suspension holes on the shoulders. Size of largest: 1" W x 3.2" H (2.5 cm x 8.1 cm)

Provenance: private Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA collection, acquired 1969 to 1970; ex-Dr. Jorge Lineas, San Jose, Costa Rica

  • Condition: Repair to light green figure along lower body, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; darker green figures are intact. Each with light abrasions and pitting, otherwise in nice condition. Great figural forms.
