Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Tonosi period, ca. 300 to 550 CE. A charming hand-built pottery vessel of a frog. Undulating and spiraling black on white motifs are slipped over a red-orange ground. Pottery created during the Tonosi period of the kingdom of Gran Cocle oftentimes are painted with two sets of chromatic combinations: either black and red motifs atop a cream ground; or black and white atop a red ground. Size: 8.5" L x 5.75" W x 6.5" H (21.6 cm x 14.6 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection, acquired before 2000. Complete provenance will be provided to winning bidder; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014
