Ancient Rome, Ca. 1st - 3rd century CE. Three terracotta sculptural fragments from Ancient Rome. A motley ensemble perhaps, nevertheless quite intriguing. First, an appliqu? delineated with the visage of none other than Zeus, father to all the gods and ruler of Mount Olympus! Next a large fragment in the likeness of the young Cupid, the Roman version of the Greek Eros - son of Aphrodite, god of love who inspired a popular ancient fertility cult. Finally, a doll-size foot, most likely from an articulated ancient toy given the lateral perforation at the knee.
