Description:

Pre-Columbian, Columbia, Narino culture, ca. 1300 to 1550 CE. This pair of Narino bowls share similar forms supported by short pedestals. Painted in red on a cream background, each has an impressive design program. One features a pair of intersecting bold, red lines that divides the composition into four quadrants, each containing a horizontal red line. The other shows three relatively thin, intersecting red lines that divide the composition into pie-shaped sections. Four of the sections feature a spider monkey with long curled tail crawling out from the center. Together they make quite a pair! 2 3/4"T x 5 1/2"D (monkey bowl) and 2 7/8"T x 5 1/8"D (geometric designed bowl)

Provenance: Ex-Gilbert Martin Collection, Georgia, USA
