Description:

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 4th to 1st century BCE. A pair of elegant wheel-thrown pottery spindle vessels. Beautifully adorned in shades of caramel, taupe, and charcoal and painted with slim horizontal rings of white, the first features a circular foot, short concave pedestal base, large bulbous body that dramatically narrows to a sloped shoulder, slender cylindrical neck, and round flared rim. The second presents with a narrow circular foot, elongated pedestal base that caves in and then expands outward to a convex body, slanted shoulder, tubular neck flaring out to a wide mouth, and a collared rim. The lovely, more slender jar is embellished with thick horizontal bands of deep charcoal and light grey with hints of beige. Size of largest: 2.75" in diameter x 6" H (7 cm x 15.2 cm)
