West Africa, Nigeria, Ibibio, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden face mask of grand size with a skull-adorned headband and thick pigment in red, yellow, and black hues. The prominent visage bears elongated yellow eyes, a broad nose, and thick lips on an articulated mandible, and on top is a rectangular hat with an omega-shaped front piece and "Gbine Deeben" written above in yellow paint. Size: 8.875" L x 12" W x 17.3" H (22.5 cm x 30.5 cm x 43.9 cm); 24.5" H (62.2 cm) on included custom stand.
