Description:

Africa, Mali, Malinke culture, ca. 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden stool of four-pillar design with a pair of stylized wooden female figures seated on top. Each figure holds their hands palms out at their sides, wears a belt strung with glass beads, and has tapered bangs dangling behind their ears. The stool seat and legs are incised with dozens of linear striations to form radiant and crosshatched motifs. The attached figures suggests this stool was intended for votive or dedicatory purposes. Size: 10" L x 9.875" W x 18.25" H (25.4 cm x 25.1 cm x 46.4 cm)
