Description:

Nepal, ca. 17th century CE. This is a large wooden carving of the bodhisattva Vajravarahi, known sometimes as the "diamond sow". She wears a crown of blossoms and the head of a boar, which is her distinguishing characteristic in artistic representations. She is dancing gleefully upon a human corpse. She is one of the most popular female Tantric deities in all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and represents a powerful female figure. This statue also comes with a relic chamber on the back that has not been opened to our knowledge, so relics may remain inside of it -- a mystery for you to discover! Size with attached stand: 35" H x 17" W x 9" L (89 cm x 43 cm x 23 cm).
