Description:

Northern Europe, Viking or Medieval culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. An exceptional iron spear tip presenting with a petaloid blade, a high central pinched ridge, a decagonal socketing shaft, a widened bulbous base, and a flared rim. Three raised rings embellish the area where the shaft of the handle meets the base, while small incised striations decorate the rim, forming petite squares, and an annular aperture at the base helps to secure the tip to its pole. The ancient weapon is additionally adorned with a lovely russet patina that adds depth to its dark taupe surface. Size: 12.5625" L x 1.875" W (31.9 cm x 4.8 cm)
