Description:

Central Europe, Bavaria, present day Austria, ca. 13th century CE. A fine pair of iron arrow heads with short conical sockets. The larger arrow has a leaf shaped blade with a pointed tip. The smaller blade has pointed shoulders and a rounded tip. The sockets were formed by hammering the iron on a mandril until the peripheries met, creating the tubular shape that could then be mounted on a wooden shaft. These arrows may have been used during of the Battle of Marchfeld, a territorial conflict within the Holy Roman Empire between Bohemians (Czechs) and the Habsburgs (Germans). These deadly missiles would have been able to pierce armor leading to great causalities before the armies were ever close enough for sword combat. Size: 4" L x .56" W (10.2 cm x 1.4 cm)
