Description:

Southeast Asia, Cambodia, Khmer Empire, ca. 14th to 15th century CE. A finely-detailed seated bronze statue of Buddha which is a bayon-style figure of Vajrasattva. This figure, seated in sattvasana, has a serene facial expression, is wearing an ornate crown with floral spokes, a large necklace, and holds a vajra in his right hand and a ghanta (bell) in his left. These are the most important ritual implements in Vajrayana Buddhism; the vajra signifies male compassion and the ghanta symbolizes female wisdom. When paired, they constitute the two elements essential to achieving salvation. A wonderful example! Size: 2.75" W x 3.125" H (7 cm x 7.9 cm).
