Description:

Asian. Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ayutthaya Period, 14th to 18th century CE, probably later part of this period. A beautifully detailed cast bronze head of Buddha, with a large, multi-tiered ushnisha atop his head indicating that he has attained Enlightenment. He is depicted with a round face and serene features, including large eyes and a smiling mouth. His remaining ear is long, emphasizing his past wealth - it has been been stretched from wearing large earrings. The clear brow line and distinctive border around the hair are characteristics of the Ayutthaya period. Medieval Thailand practiced Theravada Buddhism and much of their sculptural art focused on representations of the Buddha. When the great city of Ayutthaya was sacked in 1767, many of their Buddha statues were broken. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2" L x 2.4" W x 4.1" H (5.1 cm x 6.1 cm x 10.4 cm); height on stand: 6" (15.2 cm).
