Description:

Near East / Central Asia, Northwestern Iran & Caspian Sea region, late Bronze Age, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. A charming bronze ram effigy with a pendant loop situated on the spine and cast with stylized and minimalistic features. He stands on delineated legs with cloven hooves and ridges along the sides of his legs and neck, tightly curled horns, bored circular eyes, and a notched mouth complete his visage. Underneath the body are 2 deep cavities from casting. These small bronze figures are part of an incredibly long artistic tradition, similar in form to those made of clay during the Neolithic period. Burials from this period also contain a tremendous number of weapons, and scholars believe that gods related to military prowess. Size: 3.125" L x 1" W x 2.5" H (7.9 cm x 2.5 cm x 6.4 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.
