Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater in the form of a recumbent rabbit with a raised head and a pair of floppy ears draped atop its back. The animal holds in its mouth a curved iron grating tool with a serrated edge. The surfaces are accentuated with white, orange and green pigment, and red pigment is visible around the ears. Size: 20.75" L x 4.625" W x 10.5" H (52.7 cm x 11.7 cm x 26.7 cm)

  • Condition: Slight bending to iron grating tool, with several stable hairline fissures to wooden body, abrasions and light fading to pigment, and chips to tail, body, legs, and head, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of pigment throughout.
