Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved hardwood handle meant to be affixed onto the tang of a kris (also keris) blade. The handle depicts an abstract anthropomorphic figure with a bulbous head and intricate cords snaking across the body. The 77% silver spacer cap beneath is covered in a faint layer of gilding and presents fine foliate motifs. Lustrous patina has formed across the handle and creates a wonderful presentation. Size: 1.2" W x 4" H (3 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.2" H (13.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away; ex-Arte Primitivo Gallery, New York, New York, USA
