South America, Brazil, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A sizable basket with a broad, bell-shaped body woven from coarse reed fibers. The round but stable base would gradually become more stable once the interior is filled, and a domed lid can be secured with several fibrous strands hanging from the sides. The vessel and lid are decorated with minimalist black pigment that forms circles, zigzagging stripes, and petite crucifixes. Size: 16.55" Diameter x 18.875" H (42 cm x 47.9 cm)
