Description:

Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A hefty cast-carbon-steel axe head comprised of an ovoid socketing shaft with a thick butt, a sturdy neck, and a broad blade which droops slightly on the bottom. Axes like this may have been used in battle as a throwing instrument or for hand-to-hand combat, though it was likely used for more utilitarian purposes such as chopping and shaping wood or mud bricks. Size: 8.125" L x 2" W x 3.1" H (20.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 7.9 cm).
