Description:

Southeastern Europe, likely Hallstatt culture, ca. 8th to 7th century BCE. A near identical pair of bronze spiral spectacle fibulae, each with a hook and catch plate for pin attached to the centers of the spirals' versos. Both still have their pins present. Spiral brooches/cloak pins were a popular Europe-wide fashion and have been found in graves as emblems of status and wealth. Size: 5.95" W x 2.9" H (15.1 cm x 7.4 cm)

  • Condition: Both are intact, with some bending to form, notably to the pins. Both have teal patina with overlying oxidized patina, likely the result of deposition next to iron artifacts.
