Anthropomorphic stone axe god of the M-8 figural variety, carved from a deep grey stone with minimally incised, stylized facial features, squared jaw and shoulders, and characteristically stylized limbs. The Mezcala specialized in abstracting human physiognomy using string-cut technology, and saying so much through line and volume. One of the largest and finest examples we have seen! 10"H x 3-1/2"W x 1-1/4" in diameter. Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
