Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. An impressively large and finely modeled, red slipped with cream-hued detailing bichrome Jalisco female figure, nude except for her tall headdress and baubled headband, large ear ornaments, nose-ring, armbands, multi-strand necklace, and waist belt, standing with feet apart and arms slightly raised at sides. Her body is comprised of a characteristically elongated head with finely delineated facial details and contours, a wide torso with perky breasts, a protruding perhaps pregnant belly, ample hips and buttocks accentuated by the sculptor to indicate her fertility, and incised fingers and toes. In addition to the painted ornaments adorning her body, intriguing circular scarification marks embellish her shoulders. A wonderful example from the ancients of West Mexico! Size: 9.75" W x 13.75" H (24.8 cm x 34.9 cm)
