Pre-Columbia, Costa Rica, Pacific Slope, ca. 1 to 500 CE. A magnificent necklace comprised of deep blue/green jade. Made from dozens of mostly flat round jade discs with 29 "tooth-shaped" beads, one large barrel-shaped bead and three ancient jade miniature celts, "C" closure. Jade was of such critical importance to the indigenous people of this region that this group of beads would have only been owned by a person of major importance! Barrel bead measures 1-1/2" L, celts each 1-1/2" L. Size: 22.5" L (57.2 cm)
