Description:

Judea, Iron Age, 9th to 8th century BCE. This piece is a pretty cream-colored pitcher with a single curved handle and a raised rim around the spout. The marks of the potter's wheel are very clear, especially around the inside of the spout. This was the time period when Judea was becoming a regional power as Assyria and Egypt entered a decline; pottery made there would have been used locally in households and businesses, but influenced by the styles seen from Phoenician traders and other cultures around the Mediterranean. One for the Biblical Archaeology enthusiasts! Size: 9-1/2"H x 5-1/2" (24 cm x 14 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Bates Collection, Clarksville, IA, ex-Joel Malter Collection, acquired before 1990
