Description:

Luristan, modern-day Iran, 1000 to 600 BCE. This is a cast bronze decorated axe head with a narrow socket and a curved, incised projection from the back of the socket. This piece is small, and may have been made for a child or woman. This piece is probably from early on in Luristan's Bronze period; artwork made when the Kingdom of Elam had stronger control over the area, including explicit control over its bronze production, are often of simple, clean design as opposed to the more intricate, flourishing styles that came later. Size: 5.6" L x 3.3" W (14.2 cm x 8.4 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
