Description:

Holy Land, Israel, Early Iron Age, ca. 1200 BCE. Large and very rare to find terracotta jar with wide flared midsection, thick rim, long neck and eight loop handles on low disc foot. A vessel of this type would certainly have been used for ceremonial purposes and is quite rare to find in this size, handle configuration, and condition. Size: 14" W x 10" H (35.6 cm x 25.4 cm)

Compare to similar examples found at Megiddo in "Ancient Pottery of the Holy Land" by Ruth Amiran, plate 69, nos 203 & 204.
