Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Veracruz, Huastec, ca. 400 to 800 CE. An impressive pottery head from a rather large figure with slanted narrow coffee-bean shaped eyes, pursed applied lips, nicely modeled ears, and a prominent bifurcated cap-like headdress. Note, the right ear shows a perforation from which ornaments were once suspended and a coil section upon the neck suggests that she also wore a necklace. What's more, the right eye, lips, and chin are embellished with black slip. A lovely example from this indigenous Mexican culture. Size: 4.5" W x 6" H (11.4 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex- B. DiPietro collection, PA
