Native American, Western United States, Plains region, likely Dakota / Lakota (Sioux), ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A large pipe bag made from tanned hide sewn into a long rectangular shape with lengthy tassels and beautiful bead and quillwork throughout. Thousands of beads are lane (lazy) stitched across the surface in geometric motifs and the tassel tops are wrapped with dyed porcupine quills. Pipes and smoking tobacco were often stored in these special pouches such as this during ceremonies. Size w/ tassels: 30" L x 5" W (76.2 cm x 12.7 cm)

- Condition: Fraying and tears to a few beaded threads. A few fraying quills. Dark patina and discoloration to the leather. Mineral and earthen deposits on beads. Some cracking to leather, but still supple in areas. Overall nice preservation and majority of beadwork is intact and secure.
