Latin America, Mexico, Mata Ortiz, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. An elongated oval jar painted with dynamic registers of diamond shapes in black and red on a marbled buff ground. The underside is etched with an indiscernible first name (possibly Leila) and the last name "Reyes." The village of Mata Ortiz has become a world-famous center for ceramic production in recent decades due to the renewed interest in traditional Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquime) which is a short distance from Mata Ortiz. Size: 9" L x 5" W x 7.25" H (22.9 cm x 12.7 cm x 18.4 cm)
