Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A beautiful figural amulet which has been meticulously carved from mottled white stone with beige and dark-grey veins coursing throughout. The figure is shown squatting atop an integral conical plinth with arms wrapped around bent knees, a corseted neck, and a horizontal suspension hole biconically-drilled through the neck. The enlarged head exhibits string-cut details which form the slit-form eyes, bulbous nose and delineated nostrils, grooved nasolabial folds, thin lips, and wide forehead, and the string-cut coiffure boasts several encircled grooves. A fine example from ancient Costa Rica! Size: 1.875" W x 6.2" H (4.8 cm x 15.7 cm); 6.875" H (17.5 cm) on included custom stand.
