Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A beautiful amulet of a hefty size, hand-carved from dark forest-green stone with inclusions in hues of citrine, cream, and yellow-green. The triangular head boasts a projecting tab with a central suspension hole drilled through both sides, protruding ringed ears, a semicircular forehead ornament with incised linear motifs, a pair of concave hemispherical eyes above an upturned nose, a pair of grooves which shape an anthropomorphic 'mouth,' and the tip of an aquiline beak below which forms the 'chin' of the human face. Size: 2.8" W x 2.8" H (7.1 cm x 7.1 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.
