Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A fine mace head of a sizable form, hand-carved from a mottled light-brown stone with light and dark inclusions. The weapon has a large hafting hole in the center and thick walls surrounded with four rows of raised bulbs. A mace head like this was almost certainly created for ceremonial use rather than as a real weapon; it was likely buried along with its owner or with a prominent warrior. Size: 4.5" W x 3.05" H (11.4 cm x 7.7 cm).
