Description:

**Previously Listed At 150**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large flat pottery figure in the "gingerbread" style, so-called for its resemblance to a slab of Christmas cookie. The figure is a woman, with hugely exaggerated genitalia, and an applied pattern on her shoulders that some have seen as signifiers as rank or possibly ritual scarring in this society. She wears a necklace and a tall, pointed headdress; she has a massively elongated forehead and a large nose with a ring through it. Perhaps these were signs of beauty in this society! Size: 4.85" W x 9.3" H (12.3 cm x 23.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Peter Arnovick collection, Los Altos, CA acquired around 1980. Mr. Arnovick was a collector and dealer of ancient and ethnographic cultures.
