Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A round-bottomed jar of sizable form that was created via the traditional coil-and-scrape technique. Highly burnished and covered in sandy beige-hued slip, the vessel features broad linear, circular, stepped, curvilinear, and checkerboard in dense red and black hues. Though undecorated, the underside is outlined with a single black stripe. The most exceptional Casas Grandes vessels are of the Ramos Polychrome type which required great skill and aesthetic vision.
