Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, found in northeastern Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. A hand-built pottery pitcher of a sizable form with a round but stable base, a spherical body with a sloped shoulder, a cylindrical neck with a thick rim surrounding the interior cavity, and a vertical, black-striped handle arching from neck to shoulder. The white-slipped vessel is first smooth with dozens of highly burnished grooves and then decorated with six horizontal black bands featuring dozens of negative-resist diamonds within. Size: 6.6" W x 7" H (16.8 cm x 17.8 cm)

  • Condition: Chips, minor abrasions, and light pitting to base, body, handle, and neck, with a couple of small excisions, fading to original pigmentation, and areas of fire-darkening along verso, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original pigment throughout.
