Description:

Northern Canada, Inuit people, ca. mid 20th century CE. A striking, mottled green soapstone carving of a polar bear, focusing on the animal's powerful head and neck, which reach forward as if looking at something curiously. The long body and short legs complete this charming figure. The stone used here is particularly pretty, with a few black specks and shades of green that range from dark moss to pale mint.
