Description:

East Asia, China, & Southeast Asia, ca. 17th to 19th century CE. A large stoneware tapayan jar, glazed with linear striations impressed in the upper shoulder and a circular stamp. The surface is glazed in a yellow-brown glaze. Tapayan jars have been used and imported / exported throughout southeastern Asia, and most were used for the transport, storage, and fermentation of liquids, and in some regions such as the Philippines, they were used as burial urns. Size: 12.5" Diameter x 20" H (31.8 cm x 50.8 cm)
