Description:

East Asia, Japan, pre-WWII era, ca. 1934 to 1938 CE. A fine Japanese sword known as a Type 94 gunto officer's katana (also shin gunto or kyuyon-shiki gunto) with a machine-forged steel blade fitted within a sharkskin hilt. Petite cherry blossoms decorate the brass ornamentation along the lower handle cap, hand guard, and sheath, and leather wrapping bind areas of the handle and sheath. The exterior of the sheath is also covered in bumpy sharkskin that bears a brown-painted coloration meant as an identification of the officer's rank. Size (w/ sheath): 1.7" W x 37.125" H (4.3 cm x 94.3 cm); (blade): 27.7" L (70.4 cm)
