Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

East Asia, Japan, Meiji to Showa era, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. This is a lovely vintage brass vase with a murashido finish in red and golden hues splashed organically across the surface like marbling. The base is engraved with characters, perhaps for the maker, and the body swells upward to a broad rounded shoulder. The narrow neck rises to a flared rim, perfect for ikebana flower arrangements. To form the mottled and marbled patterning, the brass surface is dipped in hot oil to create the swirls, then smoked with rice straw. The spectacular coloration and elegant form are a superb example of Japanese artistry! Size: 6" Diameter x 7" H (15.2 cm x 17.8 cm)
